I am a twenty-two-year-old Weber State University student driven to reach my goals and full potential. The Venture program sparked that drive for perfection. A high school advisor sent me the program after I graduated. I wanted to become a teacher, and they knew Venture could help with that. I wanted to be a teacher because of my teachers' impact on my life.
The best learning experience [during the Venture Course in the Humanities] was one I already knew but found out the real importance of. That is the power of communication and connection. The Venture program and people like Alex McDonald and Deborah Uman proved that (the power of communication and connection) to me with their efforts to help me get into Weber [after completing Venture] and also take control of my goals.
My biggest challenge of the year was getting the money or scholarships to attend Weber after I graduated from Venture. My troubled past and estranged family relationships made it hard, but again those connections [made through Venture] proved to be very important and helpful for me to continue my college career.
It [Venture] was like a family. We all knew it was just the start of a journey, and we all would need some type of assistance. Everyone collectively helped and grew as a class. Some did not finish, but the ones who did are now continuing their education. I love the atmosphere. Although it is real work and you will have to do your part, the help and resources for you to succeed in all aspects are there. Most classes just hope you move along, attendance isn't required, and many people are just there for themselves. That is the difference between Venture and any other course I have experienced.
In my life I am now more determined, goal-oriented, and I know myself a lot more due to this course (Venture Course in the Humanities). I have found out what I am capable of…and the world better watch out!
